Is tie-rod inner ball joint axial play of 2mm (0.08in) safe? Dont want ball to pop out and cause crash at speed. 200 1979

On replacing a steering rack boot I noticed that one of the tie-rod inner ball joints had an axial play of 2mm (0.08in). The other joint has play of only 1mm. Volvo Green Book (Steering) has no specs for axial play for this part.
The car steers OK and tires wear OK but I am worried whether any more wear could cause the ball to pop out of the joint and cause the steering to catastrophically fail at speed. I only want to replace joint if its considered potentially dangerous.
