Alternator voltage jumping between 13 & 14V- intermittent bad regulator or bad diode? 200 1979

The voltage is either about 13.0 (12.9 to 13.0) or about 14 (13.9 to 14.0) and is stable at one of these voltages for minutes to hours. Seems to occur more often in hot weather. Bosch regulator is less than one year old but alternator is old and PO replaced rectifier plate.
Alternator is currently dismantled to replace worn bearings so while it's opened up should I replace the rectifier plate? Maybe intermittent open-circuit diode can drop output by one volt?
