So my 84 240 died a couple of months ago. Drove perfectly the night before, my wife got in and drove a half block and it died and hasn't started since. Due to
time issues I haven't been able to check it out until now.
It's getting spark and fuel. When #1 is at top dead center and all and everything is lined up the rotor does not point to #1, and it's not out 180% (exhaust stroke). It's more like it's pointing to #2. I'm assuming the timing belt slipped.
The belt is not broken, the rotor and cam are moving. I had a similar issue about a year ago but never really got a straight answer from my mechanic that I no longer will be using due to a recent poor experience. He said at the time that the distributor was frozen but I'm not sure if that was in fact true.
I do most things myself but have yet to tackle a timing belt.
Any input would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Kirk S.
