violent shake while driving--something other than lugnuts loose? 200 1991

I drove my wife’s 1991 240 today and noticed that it had a very bad shake while driving at any speed several months after having new shocks, tires, and alignment. She said that she has not hit anything and I believe her. I am planning to swap the tires and rims between the 91 and 92 to see if it is a tire or rim issue, but I feel like it's a steering or suspension failure. While pulling off the front tires Ill try to move the wheel back and fourth and side to side. If there is movement what will that mean? And, If I replace some worn out part, do I need to do it on the other side? I don't think its the rim, Tires, or Alignment and it shakes the hole car and the steering wheel and gets more violent with speed
