Heat Killing Voltage Regulators? 200

Hi Folks,

So I seem to be using up voltage regulators too frequently... I've gone though four in about 60k miles or so. I just put in a rebuilt 100amp Bosch alternator and got maybe 3k miles on it before the regulator died. Sure, it could just be a bad part but I sense a pattern here.

I am running a NA B230 with a Unitek header and am starting to wonder if the header pipes are creating too much heat down by the alternator.

When installing the pipes I considered wrapping them in heat tape but opted not to. Research showed the tape would probably overheat the metal of the pipes and encourage rust. But now I think I might need some kind of heat shielding around the regulator. ???

Any thoughts?

Thanks,
Bert
