Excessive wear in Alternator Belts 200 1990

My 1990 240 DL with 185k miles has begun eating through alternator belts about every 3-4 months. The pulleys are in good shape, the tensioners are intact and work properly. What might cause this excessive wear, or what other clues should I look for?
