Bypassing thermo wax valve?!? (semi-urgent) 200 1981

Short story:

I broke my thermostatic wax valve on my 1981 vovlo 245 and I suspect its causing a no start situation, is there a way to bypass it so I can at least get it home?

Long Story:

Replaced a few vacuum lines in my car at the parts store parking lot, in the process the thermo wax valve (Im assuming, it looks just like this http://www.ipdusa.com/Volvo-200/Engine/Fuel-Injection/Thermo-Wax-Valve-turbo/p-69-258-336-3952/ and is located sorta behind the distributer) broke.
Pulling off the vacuum lines all of the sudden the wax valve could suddenly spin about 180 degrees, I assume its not supposed to do that. Now my car no-starts and acts like the timing belt jumped, spinning and chugging and trying to start but not quite.
Can I bypass this valve? Will it being broken even effect starting? Am just doomed to have poor luck with cars from now on?

ps. are turbo wax valves only on turbo cars? the only references I can find are to a turbo engine.....and mine ain't turbo'd...
