Hi All, I recently took my Volvo on about a 500 mile trip. on the way down the car ran out of gas. We filled it, and the car didn't want to start immediately after until extensive cranking finally got it to go. Afterward the car ran fine... Until the next day it would not start. I tried the next day and it started, tried later that same day, no start. So it seems like the first try of the day the car will start, but won't again until letting it sit one/two days.
I noticed when it does not start, I will not hear the in tank fuel pump run. (this car only has one fuel pump in tank). I can hear the FI relay engage, then disengage like normal when the key is turned on. I know the Radio Suppression relay is good, cause the electronic fan relay (working) was swapped out and it made no difference. The FI relay, Radio Suppression relay, Crank Position sensor cable, all were replaced last year for a similar problem (random no start) so I doubt any of these are the problems. When I turn the key, I can hear the FI relay click as normal always. Just sometimes it doesn't seem to be engaging the fuel pump.
So, to me, this sounds like a Fuel Pump and/or wiring issue. If I bang on the fuel pump area, it makes no difference. If I jiggle the wires running to the fuel pump, it makes no difference either.
Does anyone have any other idea's to what else that this could be? I'd rather not replace the fuel pump unnecessarily. I don't have tools to check voltages, pressures, etc...
Thanks
