I have a 1989 245 with non-functional never-converted A/C. System leaked, prior owners spent a fortune (or at least, more than I paid for the car) trying to fix it, I acquired the car with the system open (both lines were disconnected at the compressor.
Clearly, this would be a total system replacement, 100% new parts. My problem is: what evaporator to get? The Volvo conversion kits, which included an improved evaporator to fit the space of the old one, are NLA. 91-93 cars had an improved evaporator, but that one will not fit inside the old-style airbox and makes no provision for the expansion valve inside the car.
Anyone out there have recent experience with converting the older system and installing a more efficient evaporator? Searching the archives turns up a number of options which no longer appear viable.
