940 Timing Belt Failure 900 1993

I've heard that the B230 engine (8-valve) is an "oppositional" engine and that if the timing belt breaks under operating conditions, the valves/rockers/camshaft will get hammered and so they will need to be replaced in addition to the timing belt. Is this true for this engine? Or can I just replace the timing belt and hope for the best? Thanks, and sorry if this question has already been posted elsewhere.
