940 passenger window binding 900 1993

My 93 940 passenger window was erratic, so when I got it up, I unplugged it for the winter. I thought the problem was electrical, so I changed both the driver's side and passenger window switches, plus replaced fuse #8 just in case. Window still only went down about 1/2 inch then stopped and would not go back up. No noise from the regulator. I inadvertantly slammed the door, then pressed the switch and the window went up. I put my VOM on the plug for the switch and got current so it wasn't a short there. I couldn't feel anything loose at the regulator, so I tried again. Same thing, down about 1/2 inch, then nothing. I gave a sharp rap to the door strut where the regulator is attached while pressing the passenger switch up, and the window when up. I tried down again. Nothing until I rapped the strut again and it went down about 1/2 inch. Rapped again and another inch down, then rapped and it went up.
Does anyone have experience to know if this is a bad regulator or just something jammed? The window didn't appear to bind when it went down, but I didn't try to really cycle anything since I didn't want to live with visqueen and duct tape.
Thanks for any advice anyone can offer. R&I on the regulator is a pain, so I'm hoping it's just binding....for now, it's unplugged in the closed position. Phew.
Thanks,
Scott
