Break down averted- Crank pulley swap 200 1990

I had a small squeal when I started the car a few weeks ago. Since getting the wagon in January I've noticed that the power steering was a bit heavy for the first few seconds. 10 days ago I happened to pull a box with my timing gun in it and figured I'd check the timing for the first time. The timing notch was moving around the pulley. I went to wrecking yard and pulled a used spare in case it went out on me while driving around.

Last night I finally got the time to swap pulleys. The pulley's two halves had already come apart. I could spin the outer piece by hand. I guess the tension from the belts was enough to keep the car running.

I thought that maybe if someone had a small squeal and the steering seemed a bit more difficult to steer at times that this might help advert a breakdown like I feel lucky to have done.
