Distributor Set-up 700

Does anyone know how to make sure the distributor is lined up properly on an '88 740Turbo wagon? I did not mark the previous one, and the car will not start. So if I put the crankshaft at TDC, what would the distributor rotor look like? Thanks for any suggestions.
