I'm thinking or replacing both front fenders on my '92 wagon rather than just repairing what is becoming some pretty bad rust. The bolted areas seem easy enough to deal with, but what is the best way to "break" the spot weld and what should be done at this area with the replacement fender? I can't "re" spot weld, and I wouldn't want this area to be a weak spot for future rust. I've tried reading some posts here, but most seem to be for 7/9 series cars. One post suggested rivets, but is there a better option to ensure a tight bond while also sealing the area from future rust?
Also, I was considering spraying the inside of the fender with some kind of sealant to protect against future rust. What about 3M rubberized spray coating? And finally, is there adhesive keeping the fender "glued" to the body that should be replaced, and if so, what could/should be used?
