'87 740T clutch not releasing 700 1987

Almost 200,000 miles. Recently it has been occasionally difficult to get the shifter into first gear. Today while shifting I noticed the clutch pedal lost it's springiness. When I took the car out of gear I had a difficult time getting it back in. I finally got it back in gear but with the clutch fully depressed the car still moves forward so I know it's still engaged. Where do I start my investigations? Thanks for any assistance.
