I replaced the fuel pump on my son's '92 940 (225k mi) a few months ago as a proactive maintenance item. Recently the car started having several problems: loss of power, difficult starting, poor running, bucking/stalling and not able to get to high speeds.
The car has a Rex/Regina ignition system. After lots of troubleshooting (and going down some wrong paths thinking it was an ignition circuit issue), I pulled the fuel pump sender out and found that the pulsation damper had pulled slightly loose from the fuel delivery tube, so much of the fuel was not making it to the engine. I removed the damper and installed a piece of fuel injection tubing in its place - problem solved.
This is the second Regina fuel pump replacement I've done. I have one more to do, and I will learn from this experience!
I was wondering if anyone else has every had this problem?
