Idle 900

On my '95 "Red" 940 the idle is very low, around 200. The car starts OK, it is a little rough at first, then smooths out, but idle remains at 200. Occasionally the car stalls at lights.

At first I thought I'd just find the idle stop adjustment and adjust it so the idle was higher. I think I identified the stop screw, but I thought I'd check the FAQs for general directions.

When I got to the FAQs I was mightily over whelmed by the technicality of most of the information and realized I was way over my head. Presumably the idle stop position has been right for many years, so why would I want to change it now and introduce yet another variable. The problem has existed for about a year, but it has not stopped us from using the car. Now I am more focused on getting my 3 940's tuned up. At the moment I don't have a single one of them I can use reliably, but they all seem to have the potential to be good cars. Cosmetically, they are close to perfect, so its not an ugliness issue. Its all mechanical.

Do I dare just raising the idle on this car and see what happens, or should I print the entire engine tuning section for FAQs and begin to study?

Bob Franklin
