Timing / distributor adjustment 200 1988

Hello,

I'll soon be replacing my spark plug wires, cap and rotor on my 88 245 with block mounted distributor. And probably by the end of this year my belts.
I plan on buying a timing light so I'm able to check and correct the timing when thru with both those jobs...
So i'm looking for a little guidance today in how about going about doing that. I've had shops do it in the past because I was unsure about myself handling it, but after almost 50k miles and the blood, sweat and tears of my working on and loving my car It's something I NEED to learn to do.

There is a short article by Mark Stites and Gene Stevens in the Electrical: Ignition System part of the FAQ's that is helpful. The Bentley of course I went over. And several web pages and youtube videos I've gone over. And yes, used the search function. :)

I'm still trying to understand the rotating the distributor cap. In the Bentley (280 -16 ignition timing #3) it says to loosen the distributor clamp-down bolt. I don't see a bolt, just two metal clamps that hold the rotor cap to the distributor mount. Is the bolt on certain models, and on mine two clamps?

So a walk through would be extremely helpful. As would any tips and tricks.

I've always had great help from this community! And thanks for all the future knowledge!
