Broken off exhaust studs .....Helicoil for replacement? 700 1986

Why is it always this way??? When I replaced my daughter's head on her 92 740 with a reconditioned one I had on hand, it only took me 2 days. No problema!

Now when I am trying to hurry up and replace the head on my 86 740, I find that the reconditioned head has 2 (count them...2) broken off exhaust studs in the head flush with the aluminum side. I tried to drill them and then use a Sears craftsman stud extractor...no luck. If I can't get them out, what size Helicoil should I order to replace the studs?
The nuts are 13mm, but I don't know the threading size or the pitch.
