I picked up a new headliner off of ebay and am working on installing it. Does anybody have any tips?
The old one was in tatters and we were getting tired of breathing the asbestos that was on the roof. I removed the old headliner and vacuumed up the crap on the roof until it was clean enough to glue some of that aluminized bubblewrap from home depot.
I cleaned up the bows and was careful to keep them in order. Then I noticed they had numbers stamped on them. I did a test fit of the headliner and found that the aluminized insulation I put on the cieling made a reflection through the perforations on the new headliner. I glued on some burlap on the insulation to take care of that.
The bows are a pain in the butt to work with. As far as I can tell the ends are inserted into holes above the doors. There does not seem to be anything to keep them from shifting up and down except for the tension on the headliner. I found that binder clips work well to keep the bows in place. The rear bow also has some metal clips to help hold it in place.
My headliner does not have the fancy plastic tabs that hold it in place front and back-- It looks like it will be challenging to get the front and back glued into place with the limited amount of surface area available to hold the material in the front of the car.
