1996 960 head casting numbers 900 1996

I have a 1996 960 sedan. I need to swap out the head. The old head has the casting number of 1001008P12. I pulled a used head out of a 1995 960 sedan. The casting number for 1995 960 is 1001536PO. Will it fit in my 1996 960? Parts shop says 1995-1997 are interchangeable, head shop is not so sure. Is there a head datbase somewhere?
