First post here, wish it was under better circumstances. Anyway, I recently acquired a 1985 245 DL wagon for cheap under the condition I would worry about smog. It had been sitting for about four years as it had failed a smog test back in 2007 (high NOx) and the owner didn't want to deal with the hassle. Right away I noticed an exhaust leak in the downpipe so I figured I had it sorted out. I've also taken care of a bunch of other maintenance items. It had the Bosch ignition, not Chrysler.
New bosch fuel injectors
New oxygen sensor
Air filter
cleaned out AMM
replaced cracked exhaust downpipe
new spark plugs, wires, cap + rotor
eliminated vacuum leaks
replaced all fluids
Timing is at 10 BTDC
The car runs great, idles smooth, gets about 23 mpg. No stalls, starts right up.
The nox levels were around 15% above maximum. HC was a little above average but well below the maximum number. This leads me to believe that the cat is performing well.
Any ideas?
