Like the title says, call me crazy, but I am considering selling my '84 245 that is in good running condition and buying a '75 164 in similar condition. I use the 240 as a second car, but a daily driver and in the four years I have owned it, it has never broken down on the side of the road. I would use the 164 as part daily driver, part fun/tinker project car. I guess it comes down to this: I have run out of projects on the 240 and I am looking for a new project I can still drive daily.
I like the 164s and I am fairly familiar with them. I do know of some of the strengths and weaknesses of the cars as I also own a 1970 164 that is stalled in the middle of restoration(lack of funds and a place to work...). I absolutely love the B30. So much torque and fairly free-revving for a I6...
My questions lie in the maintenence end of 164 ownership. I have not looked into buying parts for about five years now and I am concerned with the D-Jet injection. Are any parts still available, new or used/rebuilt for the injection? Can anyone with a D-Jet 164 comment on fuel economy, parts supply or anything else?
I need a refresh on owning a 164!
Thanks,
Nick
