blower motor problem 200 1985

yesterday all my fan positions quit working, then they came back for a short time before going out again. i noticed however if i have the fan switch off i can hear the blower motor running but very faint, if i move the swith to any other position it stops so i don't think the motor is ruined yet? Can i get away with replacing just the resistor or is it possibly the switch.
