Hi All. It's been quite some time since I've owned a 240 and posted in this forum. I'm spending most of my time in the 140 and V70 section. That said, I'm looking to get back into the game by purchasing an 82 GLT 242 about 500 miles from my home. That means flying in and driving it back. The car looks mostly sound, except that the owner has mentioned a recent problem that has me thinking twice about getting it back. Here is a direct quote from his description of the problem.
"Driving it home today It stalled on the freeway though. Battery light went on then car died and no lights on dash worked. So I got out checked the battery and wires behind alternator. Used a volt meter to double check batt and it was fine. Got back in checked fuses and turned key and dash light showed up again, started up and drove home."
Are there any obvious things I can have the owner check so that I don't have to try and deal with a problem like this on the road home? If all lights went out and the engine died, it sounds like the charging system and battery got completely disconnected during the drive. Bad battery ground or cable?
