center brake light bulbs burning out 900

On my 944, I keep blowing bulbs in center brake light fixture. Not just burn out from old age, I'm talking seriously carbonized inside the bulb. Gone through 2 now and won't put another in until I figure it out. Sounds like excessive current? Is that possible and why? All other lighting is fine.

Thanks for any hints or insights.
