1992 740 Starter Intermittent Grinding 700

About 4 years ago I had the starter replaced. The guy did a decent job and didn't overcharge. Recently, though, I have noted some unpleasant grinding sounds when the starter engages. It's kind of a rapid higher-pitched "eeeez eeeez" sound. The car starts fine -- but what should I do? Just ignore it -- or should I remove the starter & inspect the condition? I don't want to damage the ring gear on the engine --

Thanks,

Rob
