Poor running and now no start: the mysteries of D-Jet 1800

A 1970 P1800E - bringing it back to life, but its 3 setps forward and 5 steps back. New points, timing, injector seals, etc.

The car was starting fine but running roughly - then it degraded to bucking at speed, and then stalling out when stopped. Then it would stall when under load. Now it doesn't start. Sigh.

I'm replacing the fuel filter, and checking for spark and fuel, but I have a feeling it is one (or more) of the D-Jet components. The ECU, Throttle Switch, Pressure Sensor.

I followed P. Singher's tests for D-Jet (VClassics site) components. The Throttle switch clicks 20 times when I sweep through the range of the throttle. I cleaned it with electronics cleaner spray (I did not touch it).

Even if the Throttle Switch is broken - if I unplug it shouldn't it still be able to run?

I did the vacuum test on the Pressure sensor (the silver grenade thing) by sucking on the tube leading to the sensor (as per directions). I was able to suck air which means that it is broken(?). Is it? What happens if it is broken?

The ECU? How do I know it is broke (I guess if I can't start it, that would be the indicator).

Trying to eliminate possibilities - but feeling overwhelmed by the degrees of freedom offered by D-jet.

thanks so much

waggin.
