b23e fuel consumption 200 1982

Hello all,
First post - new to the board.

But I picked up an 82 240GL recently, but the fuel consumption is pretty high.
Less than 350km to a full tank.

Trying to figure out if there is a fault somewhere in the system,
ie. fuel sending unit in the tank reading wrong

-Thermo-time switch issue, running the cold start injector full time?

The car runs strong, has no loose vacuum lines, a little rough at idle but has power and everything else seems fine.

It does smell like its running rich though, and here's where things are strange to me.

There is a plug where the o2 sensor SHOULD be although as far as I know the b23e did not have an o2 sensor... Anyone know what this is? The Haynes manual is falling short here.

Off of this plug there is a metal tube that runs behind the motor along the firewall. This tube has been crimped and broken, so I'm not sure if it serves any purpose. If it did its definitely not any use now.

Any insight for this would be very helpful.

I'm pulling the injectors and plugs tomorrow, for a check.
But as I say it both runs and idles well, So I'm leaning more towards a fuel delivery issue than combustion. There is an exhaust leak at the last section of the tailpipe before the muffler, which shouldn't effect anything.
No leaks at the fuel tank either, both fuel pumps seem to be working well. (extremely quiet though)

Any suggestions would be very much appreciated,
Thanks!
