No matter what I did there was no stopping the new Simons exhaust I put in my 62 two door from banging on something. Thump thump thump, gets annoying after a while. There is an aftermarket sway bar in the rear of the car and that accounted for some of the clearance problems but not all them.
The long resonator pipe ran down thru the "tunnel", meant for this purpose, at an angle, up and down and sideways. The over the axle pipe was also too close to the spring or too close to the anti sway bar, depending on where we put the rear hanger I had made (the hanger that came with the system was woefully inadequate and broke almost immediately after installation). I decided to take it to Roland Corsi, in New Milford, Ct. Roland is a long time hot rodder and justifies his existance by fabricating custom exhaust systems. We removed mine and replaced it a few times. At each step, starting at the manifold, he would eyeball the pipes, then tweak them here and there in his bender, sometimes adding more bend, sometimes removing bend and sometimes bending where no one had ever dared bend before. After 2 hours of this @ $85 per, respectable clearances were achieved and no more thump thump thump. Not happy about the extra expense but glad it's over.
