I can usually resolve repair issues with my loyal brick (240) but she has challenged me with something unique. The fuel pump relay is not receiving a signal to activate the pumps when the car is started. I need to know where the signal originates and if there is a connection or part that needs to be checked/replaced. Currently, I am operating my brick by turning the ignition on and then jumping the fuel pumps at the #4 & #6 points on the fuse panel. At first I thought it was a bad relay. When I pushed in the spare relay it still did not start the car and so I bought a new relay. Still no start. I jumped the appropriate points on the relay socket with a piece of wire and the pumps activated. Upon visual inspection of the relay with the cover off, the #1 contact on the left activates when the key is turned to ignition but the #2 contact on the right fails to engage when I try to start the car. I manually pushed the contact points together with the ignition on and the pumps srated and the car fired up as long as I held the #2 contact points together So, the issue is not the relay or its connection plug. The relay is not receiving power to engage the second contact point that acticvates the pumps when the engine starts. Is there a wise brick owner who has experience with this? My 240 runs fine by jumping the pumps on the fuse panel but it is a bit inconvenient to be activating the pumps this way. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
