Greetings all...
Haven't posted for a long time... have had no problems. But I do now!
My 1992 940 GL (non-turbo)with about 250,000 miles on it, has started hesitating from a stop. If I feed it the gas, it stumbles badly, but doesn't die. If I leave the stop very, very slowly, and slowly feed the gas, it picks up and accelerates fine. Once past a few miles per hour, the car runs fine. Very smooth, and doesn't seem to lack any power. Runs great on the highway as well. It always starts, and never burns any oil. Also, the idle is fine.
The plugs look great. The air filter is clean. The air mass sensor is clean. And I haven't detected any vacuum leaks.
In anticipation of further work by myself, I bought a new fuel filter and started researching how to clean the injectors. After reading a little about the fuel filter, and seeing the amount of corrosion on it, I started getting cold feet. So I called a Volvo repair shop. I asked them how much to clean the injectors and install the fuel filter. She asked why I wanted to have the injectors cleaned and I recounted the above. She said the injectors NEVER need to be cleaned. Perhaps the throttle body needs to be cleaned, which would cost apx $100.
Is that the truth? Injectors don't need cleaning ever? And should I buck up and just do the work myself? To be truthful, what scares me the most is the fuel filter, because it is really nasty looking... I would hate to break something. I don't have a problem with removing the throttle body, etc.
Your advice is greatly appreciated! Thanks!
Steve
