I hope this will help someone else.
I recently purchased a 1991 244 auto, NA.
The ECU (2.4LH Fuel Injection) is 951 white label the ICU (Ignition Module)is a pink label 169.
The Check Engine Light was on when I purchased the car. Along with receipts, one for a rebuilt 951 ECU. So why the CEL?
So I pulled the codes from the OBD. Hole #2 ( fuel injection) was 1-1-1 all OK!
Hole #6 (ignition) 1-4-2 = Fault in Control Unit.

After a lot of testing and probing, I swapped a know good white label 169 ICU, and the Check Engine Light CEL went out and car ran great.

Problem solved.

Lesson learned. ICU's can go bad! When in doubt swap it out.
