brake line crush washer? 444-544 1958

Is there supposed to be a washer in the brake line fitting located in the rear--it is where the rubber hose that comes from the rear solid lines re-connects with the solid line running to the front at a mounting bracket with the hose held in place with a U locking clip. I was getting leaks from this connection. I took it apart and don't see anything obvious. I wondered if there's supposed to be a washer here, but I thought since this appears to be a flare fitting, it shouldn't have one.
