My daughter's 99 S70 Volvo just starting acting up. Runs okay on the open road but at parking lot speeds or stopping for a stop sign the whole car just shudders and acts like it's going to die. Drop it into park or neutral and it idles fine.
Took in in the the local dealer who's always been good to deal with. They diagnosed and replaced the ETM - Electronic Throttle Module for a cool $1,114.
Dealer calls me after ETM is replaced and says "Bad News - that didn't fix the problem" Now they're claiming that something in the transmission is "dragging" and that's what caused the ETM issues. They don't actually service transmissions at the dealership but they'd be happy to REPLACE it for $4,000.
I said no thanks - since we only PAID $4,000 for the car two years ago. Plus - the car runs Fine on the open road, it's just at parking lot speeds the problem shows up - and it sure doesn't seem like any transmission problem I've ever heard of?!?
They agreed to remove the new ETM since that didn't fix the problem and put the old one back in at no charge but they were sure to let me know it would fail soon!!!
I'm planning to take the car to another shop for a second opinion but I was wondering if anyone on the forum had any ideas.
TIA...
