A/C observation port - what should I see? 200 1984

Hello folks.

84 244dl/B23F/M46 power locks, everything else manual.

So my AC doesn't work. More precisely, it doesn't cool. The compressor runs (never disengages the clutch, which is not good for a CCOT system) and I see what looks like liquid flowing past the watchglass/viewport by the condenser. What should I see? I had never looked at it with the AC on before, but I did the other day. By the way, that watch glass is a great idea.

Maybe all the refrigerant leaked out and all I see is the oil moving around. I plan to get someone to recover whatever is in it, then to replace the seals and orifice tube, then vacuum it, then fill it with Freeze-12 as a test-run before I do the same to my 740T.
I am concerned that I can feel the compressor runnning through the brake pedal. It feels a bit like it's banging away inside.

EDIT: I've just been reading. Will actual check the tubes/condenser for temperatures hot/cold. Also maybe it's just a blocked orifice tube (though things are flowing). If I replace anything, it seems I should probably also replace the receiver/dryer. Thoughts?

Cheers!
Will
