Is it just me, or has the quality of replacement parts for the 240 gone way down the tubes?
I own an '86 244 GL. Bought the car brand new. Original clutch gave out at 180,000 miles, and about 2/3 of those miles were hard city miles. I was duly impressed. Replacement clutch - purchased at a Volvo dealer by me and installed by a 30 year Volvo indy mechanic - started slipping at 250,000 miles...70,000 miles after it was installed. I'm at 330,000 miles now and due for another clutch. Only 80,000 miles on this one. Flywheel was resurfaced for both clutch jobs so I can only assume that the friction material is of lower quality than it was in the original 1986 part.
Motor mounts...same story. Got about 90,000 miles out of my original motor mounts, and have been replacing them every 40-50,000 miles since. Have tried the Volvo parts counter, RPR, iPD....they all crap out after a few years.
200,000 miles on the original alternator. Replaced with a remanufactured Bosch unit, paid over $200 for the dang thing. I've gone through two in the last 130,000 miles...about 65,000 miles on each one.
Suspension bushings....the factory trailing arm bushings gave me 230,000 miles. They are groaning and moaning again barely 100,000 miles later, and supposedly the mechanic used OE replacement parts.
I could go on.....does anyone else have this problem?
