Just the other day I read a post on here about checking timing, but after a long search, can't find it. Books all say to use a timing light.

My '83 B23F faltered and died, ne'er to start again. Doesn't seem to be relays or fuel or spark problem. Timing belt is probably 8 or 9 years old, and looks a little crackly, so I thought maybe it slipped or has some broken "teeth". I will be replacing the belt, but I want to know if that's why it's not running now.
