Rear suspension noises - a couple of questions 200 1985

Hi All,

My rear suspension has made knocking noises for as long as I've had the car. I had the read axle suspension bushings replaced a year ago, to no avail.

I hope someone can suggest answers to the following:

(1) Without the aid of a shop lift, how can I diagnose suspension wear issues? Obviously, jacking up the rear of the car by the diff means the suspension is under compression. Putting on stands doesn't seem to reveal anything.

(2) Where are the top of the rear struts attached?
