Auto Trans-no 4th 900 1991

Having a transmission problem with my 91 945 SE wagon. Fluid level is good and fluid appears clean. Shifts great from 1st to 2nd, 2nd to 3rd but won't go into 4th gear. It did this the other day but than after 10 minutes it shifted into 4th and was ok for the remaineder of the 75 mile trip.
Set off this morning on a 100 mile trip and she wouldn't shift from 3rd to 4th no matter what I did. Drove the 100 miles in 3rd gear....not good!
Any thoughts?
