No Start--mixed symptons. Please help. 900 1992

Hello Brickboarders,

My 940 turbo has been a bit frustrating over the past couple months. I'm not sure the current problem is related to the past ones, but I'll give you a little background just in case.

A couple months ago we had the front main seals replaced (as well as the rear brakes) and the shop suggested replacing the timing belt at the same time since it was easy (and cheap) to do so. A few weeks later, the car very suddenly, without warning, stalled on my wife while stopped at a busy intersection. We had the car towed back to the shop, where they said the timing belt had "jumped" which caused the car to stall and not start again. They didn't seem to know why this happened, but they replaced the timing belt again at no charge, and they also replaced the plug wires, cap, and rotor, saying all were necessary.

Now, just a few weeks later again, my wife and I were driving home one night (very short trip--5 minutes or so, in town) and the car started hesitating under acceleration. We were just a few blocks from home, but it got noticeably worse until we arrived and parked. The car idled normally until I shut it down and resolved to look at it the next day. Next day, the car started right up, I popped the hood and didn't see anything unusual; but returning to the driver's seat, I could tell the car was running very roughly. I shut it off, poked around the engine some more, and then started it up again. The car was now running even worse, and eventually just stalled, not to start again. Days later, the car still won't start, but it will turn over.

I'm currently in grad school--I have only very basic tools and street parking. I've read over all of the FAQ sections and done inspections to the extent that I'm currently able. This is what I've found: in the connector to the AMM, there are six plugs, but on the cable end of the connector, 1 of the 6 metal pieces of the plug is missing. Also, one of the vacuum hoses from the throttle body to the evaporative canister has an open crack in it. All other connectors seem to be fine. I haven't been able to check the knock sensor or the throttle body.

Could the AMM connector or the vacuum hose possibly be the problem? I have a notion it's more serious, but with all the money we've spent on the car in the past few weeks, we can hardly afford to bring the car in without having a bit of an idea of what it might cost. Besides, I could replace the AMM myself, but I'm not sure about some of the other potential problems.

Any tips or ideas on this matter would be immensely appreciated. Sorry my story is so long. Thank you all for your time.
