instrument cluster replacement concerns: odometer gone kaput 200

Hello!

For my first car I decided upon a 1986 volvo 244 dl sedan, manual transmission.

I recently replaced the large clock in the cluster with a tachometer, and had no problem locating the proper wire and putting the cluster back in properly; however since then, my odometer doesn't count while everything else is fine.

When I was disconnecting the cluster, I noted where all the wires were and found some oddities : a blue wire connected to the double male spades next the speedo and a loose red/yellow wire. I left these 'as found' when reconnecting the cluster.

My concern is a previous post on this site about another volvo do-it-yourselfer who *almost* blew his cluster by connecting the tach wire to the speedo ( where apparently NO wire should belong ).

Where DO the blue and the red/yellow wire belong? And could my tinkering and connecting the blue wire have broken the odometer?

I love this first car of mine, and I am concerned I might make a fatal error.

Thanks for any/all help!

amy
