overdrive light 200 1989

have 1989 245dl with automatic transmission, the shift up or overdrive light comes on all by itself. Car was in the shop and the wires from overdrive sel. was checked and the overdrive relay was replaced, but car still drops out of overdrive at any given moment. What else needs to be looked at that would cause problem?
