Hi everyone,

I have finally come to the conclusion that I need to address my leaking rear seal. This is a 1996 960 wagon. I cannot actually see the leaks source, and I have tried believe me, but what I am planning to do is take it down to my Volvo specialist and see if he can confirm, or deny, that the leak is actually coming from the rear seal. See if he can do a better job of tracing the leak. I would also assume that they have seen rear seal leaks in that car often enough to know where the oil will be coming from. I just really don't want to do this job without some kind of expert confirmation.

If anyone can direct me to any kind of instructions on doing this job I would really appreciate it. Off hand I am thinking that I will be essentially removing the drive shaft and pulling the transmission rearward to get to this seal. I am also thinking that I will want to rent a transmission jack. If anyone else has done this job I would love to have any tips on the procedure.

I am also wondering if there is any other knows weak points in my 1996 960 that I should take care of while I am opening this can of worms. I really love this car and it only has 128k miles on it and I plan on riding it out to about 500,000 miles.
