Volvo Made an upgraded non-turbo exhaust. 700 1990

Its time to replace my original stock exhaust on my 1990 740GL. I was going to put a Starla Cat-back kit on due to cost. However, I liked the idea of the IPD upgraded non-turbo exhaust but didn't like the $318 price for what amounts to a turbo exhaust with a flange to adapt the larger OD/ID of the turbo exhaust. I started looking around and the general concensus is that the genuine Volvo kits are much more durable. I called Tasca and checked on the cost of a Turbo kit and was going to have a local muffler shop make an adapter for me. Total cost for the kit plus shipping was around $270 not including the cost to make an adapter. Let's say maybe $300 total? Now we were in the same neighborhod of the IPD kit.

On a whimm, I decided to call my local Volvo dealer and check their price on the turbo exhaust kit. I told the parts rep what I was doing and he says: "You know, Volvo made a kit about 8 or 9 years ago that was a step up from a stock exhaust and bolted directly on to the non-turbo cars". Apparently they are still availble but you have to have a record of the old service bulletin to find the kit. He had no part number for me but did have the bulletin. Total cost with tax was about $275. This might be the way to go if you can find the kit. If I do buy it, I'll report back with further details.
