hard to start all of a sudden - what's wrong? 200 1993

1993 wagon with 210k miles.

For the last 2 weeks, the car doesn't want to fire immediately like it normally does. The engine turns over fine....but it takes 2 or three good tries....when I say good, what I mean is that I hold the key to start, the engine turns over and over and over. stop. Let it rest. try it again (same..).... third time it finally fires.

What's suggested troubleshooting strategy?
