Problem with Volvo Guard alarm 900

Hi,

Found myself locked out today when the OEM Volvo Guard key fob didn't open the doors and didn't turn off the alarm. I had to open the door with the key, alarm sounding on the shopping mall parking lot, pop the hood and quickly remove the connector for the alarm horn.
I managed to drive off with the hazard lights blinking and got home.
My backup key fob worked and I thought it was time for new batteries in the non working unit.
New batteries didn't make any difference and I had to reprogram the alarm for both senders, and they both work now.

Time for a new alarm unit or what?
