Blower motor or switch? 200

I have a 86 240 that makes a loud noise as it heater blows. I usually have to have the switch turned to 3 before if even turns on. Now it won't turn on at all or is spotty at best. What should I concentrate on fixing? I hear that fixing the blower motor is a pain. Should I just let the pros handles it? Thanks.
