Thought my strut mount had failed!. Not my front strut mount, Gland nut worked loose! 900 1995

1995 945 8-Valve 244,500 miles.

Mounts okay! Strut gland nut came loose! A repair that required no new parts to fix. Whew!

But would like recommendations on the mount brands - OEM only? How do Rein, Meyle, and KYB compare?

---

It began a small clunk/knock noise and got progressively worse over the last couple months. I thought that the strut mount had failed, but when I was preparing to take the front strut assembly apart, I discovered that the strut cartridge was loose.

Pulling up to boot revealed that the gland nut was completely backed out of the tube and the strut was rattling around.

I applied loctite red threadlocker and reinstalled the gland nut. I checked the other strut as well, applied loctite to exposed threads and cranked it down as tight as possible,

Disaster averted. But I probably should prepare for new strut mounts in the foreseeable future.
