how do i repair a stopped odometer(take it apart) after i have removed the speedometer 200

hi sages- need some expert guidance steps from always helpful brickers on the board. the odometer in my 92 240 hasnt worked in a year. the speedometer works fine. have heard the problem is most likely deteriorated teeth on a small plastic gear in the back of the speedometer. took out the cluster and took the speedometer out of the cluster. understand this means the motor in the speedometer is ok. on the face of the speedometer is the number k39200. do i need to dismantle the speedometer. there are two tiny screws holding the face plate on. this would mean the needle has to come off. cant see any small plastic gear looking into the sides of the speedometer. who as replacement speedometers if that is the only option. dont want to get shystered by the dealers. appreciate your help. thanks oldduke
